Mars High School senior Brian Routhieaux will continue his education and golf career at Baldwin-Wallace College.

Routhieaux was a four-year letterman and a team captain as a senior for the Planets. He also played basketball for two seasons.

Routhieaux set school records for stroke average for both a season and a career.

No. 4 seed Moniteau (7-7) and No. 5 seed Karns City (7-8) will meet in a first-round District 9 Class AA baseball game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Moniteau.The winner will advance to the semifinals, where it will face host and No. 1 seed Redbank Valley (14-1) at 4:30 p.m. May 24.• In Class A action, Union (No. 6 seed) will host No. 11 Elk County Catholic at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.In the Class AA District 9 softball playoffs, No. 2 seed Karns City will receive a first-round bye and meet No. 3 seed Redbank Valley, which also received a first-round bye, at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Karns City in a semi-finals matchup.No. 5 seed Moniteau will travel to play No. 4 seed Brookville at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Lynchburg College's Mike Carpenter, a 1996 graduate of Slippery Rock University, has been named the 2006-07 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Sports Information Director of the Year, as voted on by the league's sports information professionals.Carpenter has been Lynchburg's SID the past seven years and is responsible for the promotion of the school's 21-sport athletic program. He serves on the college's Hall of Fame Committee, is a member of the CoSIDA Technology Committee and has received several CoSIDA Fred Stabley writing contest awards.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ryan Newman's pit crew kicked off NASCAR's All-Star week activities by winning the Nextel Pit Crew Challenge Wednesday, beating Bobby Labonte's team in the finals.Newman's seven-member crew changed four tires, filled the car with gas and pushed it 40 yards in 24.66 seconds.
