BUTLER TWP — The Franklin All-Stars defeated Butler Township 7-2 Wednesday in Game 1 of a best-of-three District 25 10- and 11-year-old championship series.

Clint Regal and Tyler Protivnak each had a double and Chase Williams and Jackson Williams each singled for Butler Township. Ritchey had a single and double, and Madden HAD two singles for Franklin.

Butler Township will host Game 2 at 6 p.m. today at Adelman Field.

CENTER TWP — Golfer Marissa DeCola, 13, of Center Township had a good two days at tournaments this week.On Monday, DeCola carded an 85 to finish second in the 15-and-under division at the King's Junior Tournament at Greenville Country Club.At the Keystone P.J. Boatwright Junior Qualifier, held Tuesday at Mohawk Trails Golf Club in New Castle, she finished first in the 12-to-14 division with an 86.

CORAOPOLIS — Robert Morris University had a Northeast Conference-high 25 student athletes make the inaugural Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. Five are from Butler County.Seniors Mark Klabnick (men's soccer) and Jessica DeSantis (women's soccer) are graduates of Knoch High, while sophomores Tara Maxwell (women's track and field) and Katie Blum (rowing) are Butler graduates.Senior Ashley Himes (women's rowing) is a graduate of Freeport.

NEW CASTLE — Mars residents Lauren and Marisa Glew finished first and second, respectively, in the girls ages 18- to-20 division of the Keystone P.J. Boatwright Junior Qualifier, held Tuesday at Mohawk Trails Golf Club.Lauren Glew shot a 79 while her sister carded an 82.

BEAVER FALLS — Nate Bilski of Butler carded a 74 to finish second in the Heritage Tour qualifier held Tuesday at Blackhawk Golf Course.Bilski finished two strokes behind champion Mike Wolfe but earned a berth in the Heritage Tour's champions round slated for Quicksilver Golf Club in Midway later this summer.
