ALTOONA — Seneca Valley graduate Gabe Grinder threw a no-hitter in the SV Palomino team's 7-0 win over the Brooklyn Bonnie Jays in a tournament game Thursday.

Grinder, a member of the Raiders' state championship baseball team this spring, missed a perfect game when he allowed a two-out walk in the last inning.

He struck out seven while teammates Jim Burry and Andrew Fornadel both had three hits and Mike Eonta tallied two hits.

McCANDLESS — The Butler Township Federation Pony 14-year-old baseball team crushed North Hills 12-2 in a World Series Tournament game Friday.Cody Wheeler homered in the win, Nathan Bresnahan and Tyler Selepski both singled twice, Jace Lyons doubled and Kyle Carson singled for Butler Township, which will face Vesta at 3 p.m. Saturday in McCandless.

WARREN — The Butler Township 9- and 10-year-old Little League All-Star squad dropped a 4-3 decision to Millcreek at the sectional tournament in Warren Friday.Luke Baranchak doubled for Butler Township while Nick Patton and Rob Kunst both singled.Butler Township will face McLane at 6 p.m. Saturday in Warren.

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Due to inclement weather, the Slippery Rock Sliders game against the Rockford Riverhawks was suspended Friday with Rockford ahead 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning.Play will resume at 5:05 p.m. Saturday.
