PITTSBURGH — Butler residents Nathan Kibbie and Natalie Barkus finished second and third in their respective divisions of the Punt, Pass &Kick Team Championship hosted by the Pittsburgh Steelers recently.
Kibbie finished second in the boys ages 8-9 division while Barkus was third in the girls ages 12-13 division. Both participated in a halftime passing exhibition at the recent Browns-Steelers game at Heinz Field.
Both won local PP&K competitions in Butler and New Castle to advance to the Team Championship.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan coach Lloyd Carr will retire Monday after 13 seasons, ending an era marked by highs of winning a national championship and five Big Ten titles and lows of losing to Ohio State and Appalachian State.Carr told The Associated Press of his decision Sunday by phone, saying he wouldn't comment further until a Monday morning news conference at the school.The 62-year-old coach informed his players and staff of his retirement Sunday during a team meeting at Schembechler Hall.Carr is 121-40 with a .752 winning percentage, ranking him seventh among active coaches just behind Florida State's Bobby Bowden and ahead of South Carolina's Steve Spurrier before he retired.
ATLANTA — Tom Glavine returned to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, agreeing to an $8 million, one-year contract.The agreement between the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner and the Braves was hammered out during weekend talks, said Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton. The pitcher already has taken a physical for Atlanta, the final formality in the deal.The Braves needed less than a week to lure Glavine back after an acrimonious split in 2002 that led to him spending five seasons with the New York Mets.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Bills tight end Kevin Everett has been released from a Houston hospital to resume his next phase of rehab, 10 weeks since sustaining a severe spinal cord injury.It was unclear when this week he was released, but Everett will continue his rehab at the facility as an outpatient.
