WARRENDALE — Andrew Tang registered a hat trick and added an assist to power the Seneca Valley hockey team to a 6-2 victory over McDowell in PIHLClass AAA action Tuesday.
Tyler Mesisca added a pair of goals, Matt Jarrett had one goal and one assist and John Raymus had three assists for the Raiders (4-0), who are atop the North Division.
Seneca Valley will face North Allegheny at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at BladeRunners.
PITTSBURGH — Gary Varsho, a former Pittsburgh outfielder, was hired Tuesday as new Pirates manager John Russell's bench coach.Also chosen for Russell's staff were third base coach Tony Beasley and bullpen coach Luis Dorante.Varsho, a backup outfielder on the Pirates' 1991 and 1992 division-winning teams, was the Indians' outfield and base running coordinator last season after spending five seasons as the Phillies' bench coach. Varsho also managed in the minors for five seasons.Russell was the Phillies' Triple-A manager the last two seasons after being the Pirates' third base coach from 2002-05.Beasley, a one time Pirates farmhand, has been with Pittsburgh for 15 seasons as a minor league player, coach and manager. He also was the Washington Nationals' third base coach in 2006.Dorante, a minor league manager for 11 years, managed the last two seasons in the Marlins' farm system after being Florida's bullpen coach in 2005. He managed or coached in the Expos' minor league system for seven years.Last season, Jim Lett was the Pirates' bench coach, Jeff Cox was the third base coach and Bobby Cuellar was the bullpen coach under former manager Jim Tracy.
