PITTSBURGH — Chris Gomez, a 15-year veteran utility infielder who split last season between Baltimore and Cleveland, agreed to a $1 million, one-year contract Wednesday with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Gomez, a right-handed hitter, batted .297 with one home run and 21 RBI in 222 at-bats with Cleveland and Baltimore last season and can play all four infield positions.

CHESTER, W.Va. — The six-bout professional boxing card, featuring Butler heavyweight Brian Minto, scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 30 at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort is set.Minto (28-2, 17 KOs) will face Byron Polley (27-7-1, 10 KOs) of St. Joseph, Mo., in a 10-round bout for the WBAFedercentro heavyweight title.Jim Emrick (2-1, 2 KOs) of Butler takes on Corey Gregory (5-14, 3 KOs) of Cleveland in a four-round heavyweight bout.The vacant USBAlightweight title will be awarded to either Verquan Kimbrough (18-1-1, 7 KOs)of Aliquippa or Oisin Fagan (20-4, 12 KOs) of Oklahoma City, as they meet in a 12-round fight.Rounding out the card are Steve Perry (0-1) of Youngstown, Ohio, vs. Khristian Geraci (0-2) of Pittsburgh, John Lipscomb (3-12) of Cleveland vs. Eric Burke (14-6-1, 4 KOs) of Columbus, Ohio, in four-round welterweight bouts, Chris Stallworth (18-1, 3 KOs) of Pittsburgh vs. Dan Whetsel (9-12-1,5 KOs) in a six-round heavyweight battle.Tickets are $100, $60, $40 and $25 and are available at any Ticketmaster location or by calling 866-448-7849.
