GREENSBURG— Butler sophomore Matt Slamecka won the 18-year-old title in the Greensburg Junior Holiday USTATennis Classic held at the Greensburg Racquet Club last week.

Slamecka defeated all four opponents in straight sets to win the title. He is ranked 12th by the U.S. Tennis Association in the Middle States Section and is ranked 243rd nationally among 16-year-olds.

SLIPPERY ROCK— Danielle Cooper, a junior forward on the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team, was recently named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Scholar All-America third team.Cooper, a native of Lancashire, England, carries a 3.5 grade point average as a business administration-sports management major.Cooper scored eight goals and had one assist in helping The Rock to a best-ever 17-5-1 record.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers promoted offensive lineman Jonathan Parquet from their practice squad on Wednesday and signed rookie offensive lineman Jason Capizzi for the second time.The Steelers made the moves after losing starting tackles Marvel Smith and Max Starks to injuries in the last three weeks.
