IN BRIEF

MILWAUKEE — The Brewers are extremely close to a deal to acquire Indians ace C.C. Sabathia in a trade that bolsters their rotation for a playoff push, a person with direct knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

The person requested anonymity because the trade has not been finalized and said there were a few remaining issues to work out.

Sabathia went 19-7 with a 3.21 ERA to win the AL Cy Young last season and would give the Brewers another power pitcher to pair with Ben Sheets as Milwaukee tries to make the playoffs for the first time since 1982.

The big lefty is 6-8 with a 3.83 ERA for the Indians, but has also been plagued with a lack of run support. In 11 of his 18 starts, Cleveland has scored two runs or less for him.

McDONALD — Bryant Hawk of Sarver and Mars' Chuck Kennedy each won their respective events Saturday at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway.Hawk captured the checkered flag in the Late Model event for the first time, while Kennedy placed first in the Modified division.

ROGERS, Ark. — South Korea's Seon Hwa Lee birdied the final hole Sunday for a one-stroke victory over Jane Park and Meena Lee in the LPGA Tour's NW Arkansas Championship.Seon Hwa Lee closed with a 4-under 68 to finish at 15-under 201.

BETHESDA, Md. — Anthony Kim is on the cusp of joining the short list of challengers to Tiger Woods, a point driven home Sunday not so much by his victory at the AT&T National as the phone call he received from the tournament host.Woods wasn't at Congressional to present the trophy, but he surely would have appreciated Kim's performance. After a week of mistakes that held him back, Kim shot a bogey-free round of 5-under 65 for a two-shot victory over Fredrik Jacobson.Kim became the first American under 25 since Woods to win at least twice in the same year on the PGA Tour.
