BUTLER TWP — The Butler Area Midget Football League championship games will be played at Art Bernardi Stadium Saturday.
The junior varsity title game, pitting East Butler against East Side, will be played at 5 p.m. The varsity final between Penn Street and Center Township is scheduled for 7.
Soccer, volleyball teams move on
Several Butler County high school soccer and girls volleyball teams were victorious in playoff action earlier this week and have learned their next foe and game site. They include:
• In WPIAL Class AAA girls play, Seneca Valley (17-2) will face Peters Township (16-1-2) at 6 p.m. today at Chartiers Valley High, followed by a Class AAA boys battle between Butler (9-6-4) and Peters Township (14-5) at the same venue.• Also in Class AAA boys action, Seneca Valley (12-6) will take on Franklin Regional (14-1-3) at 3 p.m. Saturday at North Allegheny.• In a Class AA boys game, Knoch (14-1-1) will face Belle Vernon (12-4-3) at 7:30 p.m. today at Penn-Trafford.
• Knoch plays at Indiana at 7:30 p.m. today in a WPIAL Class AA first-round battle.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are encouraged by safety Troy Polamalu's progress since he sustained his second concussion in three seasons Sunday, but still haven't cleared him to play Sunday against the New York Giants.Coach Mike Tomlin said Polamalu must continue passing the post-concussion tests required of all players. Polamalu took part in practice Wednesday."Today was a good day, but we'll continue to take it day to day," Tomlin said. "His health and safety is first and foremost."Polamalu has had at least seven concussions while playing football — three at Southern Cal, two in high school and two in the NFL, including one in a 2006.
