PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate and Carnegie Mellon University sophomore swimmer Molly Evans was named to the CoSIDA All-District women's first team for the 2008-09 season.
The award is sponsored by ESPN the Magazine.
Evans broke nine school records last season, including six individual marks, and is part of 13 school records, nine individual, overall.
UNIONTOWN — In his boxing debut, Billy Wolfe, 8, of Butler Cubs Boxing won a unanimous decision over Bradon Lial from WVU in the 58-pound class last Saturday at the Uniontown Veterans of Foreign Wars.Donovan Malovich (5-0) of the Cubs took a unanimous decision from Nick Marongoni of McKeesport in their 68-pound bout.The Cubs' Richard Wilson lost a close split decision to Shayaa Berry of Clarion in Wilson's boxing debut.The boxers will fight at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sons of Italy Club in Elwood City.
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians recalled right-handed pitcher Tomo Ohka from Class AAA Columbus Thursday and optioned left-hander and Seneca Valley graduate Zach Jackson to the Class AAA club.Jackson started for the Indians in Wednesday night's 12-7 win over Tampa Bay, but allowed six earned runs in four innings. He struck out four, walked four and had a no-decision.
FOX CHAPEL — Grant Foley of Meridian led the Shady Side Academy JV baseball team with a .519 batting average, 15 RBI and 15 walks.Foley also went 2-1 as a pitcher for the 11-4 Indians. About midseason, he was moved to the varsity team, which captured the WPIAL Class AA title in a 3-2 win over North Catholic.
