DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks announced that free agent point guard Jason Kidd agreed to a three-year contract on Saturday, five days after owner Mark Cuban confirmed that Kidd was returning. Kidd agreed to a dealt worth more than $25 million.
The 37-year-old could finish his career where it started in 1994 — with the Mavericks. Kidd has averaged 13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 9.2 assists in 15 NBA seasons.
PHILADELPHIA — Pittsburgh Pitrates left-hander Zach Duke has been added to the National League All-Star team.Duke, 8-8 with a 3.290 earned run average and three complete games, was named Sunday as a replacement for San Francisco pitcher Matt Cain. Cain was hit on the arm by a line drive over the weekend.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Four members of the Slippery Rock Sliders were named to the Eastern Division roster for the Prospect League All-Star Game, which will be held Tuesday in Springfield, Ill.Pitchers Mike Devine (Virginia Military Institute) and Andrew Morris (Gulf Coast CC), catcher-first baseman Derek Diruscia (SRU) and infielder Kenny Stoneback (Old Dominion University) will represent the team.Through Thursday, Devine is 1-0 with a 1.45 ERA. He has a league-tying high of seven saves with 27 strikeouts and six walks in 18X\c innings.Morris is 4-1 with a 1.99 ERA, two complete games and 45 strikeouts, and 24 walks in 45⅓ innings.Diruscia is hitting a team-high .328 with two doubles, a triple, one home run and six RBI while Stoneback is second with a .321 average, three doubles and seven RBI.
STATE COLLEGE — Ryan Prokay of Grove City fired a three-round total of 222 to tied for fifth place in the boys 16-18 division at the PGA Junior Series event at Penn State University's Blue Course June 30-July 2.Prokay carded a 74 all three days, finishing eight strokes behind champion Matthew Porter of Cortland N.Y.
