EAST STROUDSBURG — Jabril Bailey scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team to an 80-67 win over Queens College (N.Y.) in the championship game of the Pocono Classic at East Stroudsburg University Saturday.
Bailey was named the tournament MVP.
Michael Evans Jr. added 19 points and added a team-best five assists and Maron Brown had 13 rebounds for The Rock (5-0).
SRU led for most of the game, using an early 15-5 run to take a 10-point lead.
Queens never got closer than 10 the rest of the contest.
Bailey scored 42 points and had 24 rebounds in the two games of the tournament.
Evans Jr. also made the all-tournament team.
The Rock has now won 13 straight regular season games.
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback William Gay sustained an apparent concussion during an accidental helmet-to-helmet collision with teammate Ryan Mundy during the fourth quarter of the Oakland Raiders' 27-24 comeback victory Sunday.As the Raiders' Louis Murphy was catching a 19-yard pass at the Steelers 40 with 53 seconds remaining, Gay and Mundy converged on the receiver at the same time, and Mundy's helmet slammed into Gay's. The cornerback lay on the turf for several minutes before being helped off the field.Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Gay is believed to have a concussion. Gay did not require hospitalization and was at his locker after the game.
GLENDALE, Ariz. — Minnesota linebacker E.J. Henderson broke his leg against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in a brutal injury that will apparently sideline him for the season while dealing a serious blow to the Vikings' defensive unit.Henderson fractured his femur while trying to tackle Tim Hightower late in the fourth quarter — his leg twisting violently as he went down. He was taken off the field on a motorized cart after doctors spent several minutes attending to the star linebacker. His brother and teammate, Erin, held Henderson's hand as they were driven to the locker room.Coach Brad Childress said Henderson will spend the night in Phoenix and undergo surgery.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The PGA Tour has reached a multiyear deal with the Asian Tour to stage the Malaysia Asia Pacific Golf Classic.The tours said Monday the event will be played late next year at The Mines Resort and Golf Club, with the winner receiving $1 million from the $6 million purse.
