MUNHALL — Two Butler Cubs boxers captured titles at the Silver Gloves State Championship Sunday.

Donovan Malovich, 10, won a decision over Khailil Billa of Philadelphia in the 65-pound class.

In the 132-pound class, Evan Park, 15, won by a walkover against Philadelphia's David Daniels, who was overweight.

Both fighters advance to the Silver Gloves regional event Jan. 15 to 17 in Ashland, Ky.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The 1972-73 Slippery Rock University men's basketball team, as well as former women's basketball players Jodi Gault and Jan Kasnevich, will be recognized Jan. 30 as part of The Rock's home game against Indiana (Pa.).The squad, coached by Mel Hankinson, won the NAIA District 18 championship with victories over Point Park and Mercyhurst and claimed three wins in the national tournament before dropping back-to-back decisions.Gault scored 978 points from 1976-78 and coached Pitt-Johnstown to a 540-146 record over 25 seasons. Kasnevich, a 1968 graduate, was a four-sport athlete as a member of the basketball, field hockey, volleyball and tennis teams. She also coached field hockey and softball at The Rock.Gault and Kasnevich will be honored at a pregame reception at 4:30 p.m.; the men's team at 6:30 and all will be spotlighted during the halftime ceremony

SLIPPERY ROCK — Former Slippery Rock University men's basketball player Kyle Camper has signed to play professionally in Germany.Camper, who led all NCAA divisions in assists last season with a 10.3 per game average, will be a member of the Baskets-98 organization.Camper is the third SRU player to sign a pro contract. He joins Denell Stephens, who is playing in Luxembourg, and Ken Ottrix, who is a member of the Vermont Frost Heaves of the Premier Basketball League.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Danica Patrick will not make her NASCAR debut at Daytona International Speedway, and instead will wait one week and attempt to race in the Nationwide Series race in California.The IndyCar star is still finalizing her NASCAR schedule, which is expected to be 13 Nationwide races for JR Motorsports.Kelley Earnhardt, co-owner of JRM, says that Patrick will try to make the Nationwide races at Auto Club Speedway on Feb. 20 and the Feb. 27 race at Las Vegas.Her stock-car debut will come in the Feb. 6 ARCA race at Daytona. She will test that car this weekend.
