FULLERTON, Calif. — The Cranberry Township Pony-13 baseball team lost a 9-1 decision to Culiacan Sinaloa (Mexico) in the first round of the Pony World Series on Friday.
John Davis, Joel Shaffer, Ryan Senka and Matt Ptak recorded Cranberry's four hits while Senka, Shaffer and Ryan Donnelly were the pitchers.
The double-elimination tournament continues Saturday with Cranberry facing Laredo (Texas).

SLIPPERY ROCK — Three Slippery Rock University men's track and field athletes, Chris Warning, Joel Peters and Slippery Rock High graduate Ethan Geisler, were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Academic teamStudent athletes must maintain a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and reach at least the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard to be eligible.Geisler ran the 400-meter hurdles for SRU while Warning and Peters excelled in the discus and hammer throw.
MOLINE, Ill. — Sarver native and Hobart College graduate Nick DeCroo re-signed with the Quad City Mallards of the Central Hockey League.DeCroo played four games with Quad City during Hobart's spring break this year. A forward, he was a team captain and received Hobart's Holden Award for sportsmanship, character and leadership.DeCroo led Hobart with 15 goals in 2007-08 and 20 goals in 2008-09. He was plagued by injuries his senior season and scored four goals in 10 games.

LOUIS — No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford agreed to a six-year, $78 million contract with the St. Louis Rams, with $50 million in guaranteed money.The Rams and the former Oklahoma quarterback concluded negotiations Friday night, just in time for the first full-squad workout set for Saturday. The guaranteed money is the highest ever in the NFL.Bradford is the centerpiece of a rebuilding effort for the Rams, who were 1-15 last year in the first season under coach Steve Spagnuolo and are 6-42 the last three seasons.
SAN ANTONIO — Dallas Cowboys rookie receiver Dez Bryant is going to be out four to six weeks because of a high right ankle sprain.Bryant injured his ankle near the end of practice Friday when he became entangled with cornerback Orlando Scandrick while trying to catch a pass that was thrown behind him.
