LOCK HAVEN — Slippery Rock University's women's volleyball team has been picked to finish seventh in the PSAC West by the preseason coaches poll.

California (Pa.) is picked to win the West with Lock Haven the unanimous choice in the PSAC East.

SRU was 7-25 last season, its first losing campaign since 2002. Sixteen of The Rock's 23 opponents in 2010 had winning records last season.

Jack Gagen scored two touchdowns as Butler Area Midget Football League defending champion Center Township shut out East Butler, 26-0, in its season opener Saturday at Memorial Park.Daniel Kline and Kyler Callihan also scored touchdowns for the Rams.

PITTSBURGH —Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club is in a five-way tie for first place after the first round of the 106th PNC West Penn Open Championship Monday at St. Clair Country Club.McClellan carded a 70 along with Kevin Shields and Bob Friend of Pittsburgh, Robert Rohanna of Waynesburg and Chad Warmbein of McMurray.Other locals involved include Rick Stimmel of Wexford (71), Rob Voltz of Butler (72) and Gary Van Sickle of Wexford (75).Round 2 of the Open will be played today.

UNDATED — Satch Davidson, the home plate umpire when Hank Aaron and Carlton Fisk hit two of baseball's most famous home runs, has died. He was 75.Davidson was hired as a National League umpire in 1969. A bad back forced him to retire after the 1984 season.He worked no-hitters that Jim Maloney and Don Wilson pitched on back-to-back days. Davidson was on the field for five no-hitters overall, plus a pair of World Series, three NL championship series and the 1976 All-Star game.
