MUNCIE, Ind. — Seneca Valley graduate Jen Boyd had six kills and a block for the Ball State University volleyball team in a 3-0 win over Tennessee State Friday.

Boyd and the Cardinals (4-0) played in front of a record crowd of 1,744 fans at Worthen Arena.

TORONTO — Baseball fans have long been warned to look out for foul balls and flying bats.Now add falling letters to the list.A fan at the Toronto Blue Jays' game was OK on Monday after being struck in the right shoulder by a tumbling, metal "B'' from a sign honoring Jackie Robinson.The middle-aged man had a scrape after a foul ball by home run leader Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays dislodged one of the letters in a tribute honoring Robinson's retired No. 42.

HOUSTON — Matt Leinart agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, agent Tom Condon said Monday.Leinart was cut by Arizona Saturday. Condon confirmed in a phone interview with The Associated Press that Leinart had reached a deal with the Texans.The Texans were looking for insurance at backup quarterback after Dan Orlovsky threw two interceptions in Houston's last preseason game last week.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens Monday.The 10-year veteran was cut by Seattle last week. He signed with the Seahawks as a free agent before the 2009 season and had a team-high 79 catches for 911 yards and three touchdowns.Houshmandzadeh spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

NEW YORK — The NFL will update its teams this week on the repositioning of the umpire to the offensive backfield.A memo will be sent to the 32 clubs outlining how the change will work during the season.In March, the league decided for safety reasons to move umpires from the middle of the defense near the linebackers to behind the deepest running back.But Colts quarterback Peyton Manning complained in a preseason game at Green Bay. He was twice called for illegal snaps when the umpire couldn't get into position quickly enough.The league moved umpires back to their old spots during the final five minutes of last Thursday's final exhibition games. Previously they were in the old spot for only the final two minutes of each half.

PHOENIX — A 13-year-old boy seated near the Arizona Diamondbacks dugout was carried away on a stretcher Monday after being struck on the head by a flying bat.The boy, who was sitting on the third base side of home plate, just beyond the start of the protective netting, was hit on the right side of the head in the fourth inning after San Francisco's Buster Posey lost the bat swinging at a pitch.The boy was alert and speaking with medics as they worked on him and gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he was carried away. A security official at Chase Field said he was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A University of Wyoming football player was killed and three teammates were injured Monday when a pickup drifted off a Colorado highway and crashed, authorities said.Ruben Narcisse, 19, of Miami was killed, the Colorado State Patrol said.Trey Fox, 19, of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Christian Morgan, 18, of Aurora, Colo., and J.J. Quinlan, 19, of Everett, Wash., were injured and were taken to hospitals in Laramie, Wyo., and Loveland, Colo.Fox was driving and apparently fell asleep, investigators said. They said alcohol and drugs aren't believed to be factors.
