Mount Vernon has a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Game 2 was scheduled to begin at noon with Game 3, if necessary, set for 3 p.m.
Point Park is 37-12 on the year and ranked No. 23 in NAIA.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University's Shaylee Ianno has been named PSAC West Softball Pitcher of the Year with Butler County products Jenna Geibel and Kirsten Brant joining her as all-conference first team performers.Ianno was 12-5 with one save and a 1.75 earned run average. She had 94 strikeouts in 89.1 innings pitched. Ianno is the first Rock pitcher to earn All-PSAC honors since 1995.Senior second baseman Brandt, a Knoch graduate, hit .413 this year with 43 hits and a .455 on-base percentage. Sophomore third baseman Geibel, a Butler grad, hit .394 with five homers, 33 RBI and 24 runs scored.
LOS ANGELES — The San Francisco Giants fan who was severely beaten outside Dodger Stadium on opening day must undergo surgery to drain fluid that has built up in his brain.Bryan Stow's family wrote on their blog that the surgery is expected this week.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Bill Haas had stress-free birdies on all the par 5s and did little wrong Thursday in the Wells Fargo Championship, matching the tournament record for lowest opening round with an 8-under 64.It was his best score by four shots at Quail Hollow on the PGA Tour.
