LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul strained his left hamstring in the fourth quarter against the Lakers on Saturday night and an MRI done Sunday was negative.

The team says Paul is day to day and is questionable for Monday's game against New Jersey.

Paul is averaging 18.0 points, 8.4 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 37.3 minutes in nine games for the Clippers, who beat Miami and the Lakers in their last two games.

WASHINGTON — Gio Gonzalez agreed to a contract extension with the Washington Nationals on Sunday, just three weeks after the left-hander was acquired in a trade with the Oakland Athletics.The deal runs though the 2016 season and includes options for two more years. Gonzalez had filed for arbitration on Friday.The 26-year-old Gonzalez went 16-12 last season — a career high for wins — with a 3.12 ERA in 32 starts and was selected to his first All-Star game. He has reached 200 innings the past two seasons.

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays and center fielder Colby Rasmus have agreed to a one-year, $2.7 million contract, avoiding arbitration.The Blue Jays acquired the 25-year-old from St. Louis in a three-team trade that included the White Sox in July after the 2005 first-round pick struggled at the plate and clashed with the Cardinals over his choice to be coached by his father rather than hitting instructor Mark McGwire.

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics and free agent right-hander Bartolo Colon have reached agreement on a one-year deal that will bolster the team's depleted rotation, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said Sunday.Colon's contract is pending a physical, the person told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team had yet to make a formal announcement.

BOSTON — Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and the Boston Red Sox have reached agreement on a one-year, $2.5 million contract.The Red Sox announced the deal Sunday and avoided salary arbitration. Saltalamacchia made $750,000 last year.The 26-year-old Saltalamacchia set career highs with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs last season. He hit .235.
