ST. LOUIS — Former Slippery Rock University baseball standout Matt Adams hit his first career MLB home run on Sunday in the St. Louis Cardinals' 8-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The solo shot came off reliever Chad Qualls in the sixth inning.

Through his first eight games in the big leagues, Adams is hitting .345 with four doubles, one homer, two RBIs and three runs scored.

SHIPPENSBURG — South Park High School senior Bill Stanley has had a record-setting day at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.Stanley set a National Federation of High Schools and PIAA record in the javelin. On his first throw, Stanley unleashed a toss of 246 feet, 9 inches. That's the best high school toss since the javelin was re-weighted in 2002. The effort broke the mark of 244-2 set by Sam Crouser of Gresham High School in Oregon in 2010.
