CENTER TWP — Paige Scott of Butler shot a nine-hole score of 44 to win the Girls 8-9 division at the U.S. Kids Golf Pittsburgh local tour event at Stoughton Acres Golf Course Friday.

Other local placers were:

• James Ellis of Butler was second in the Boys 12 division with an 86

• Henry Bartony III of Butler shot a 76 to place second in the Boys 11 division.

• Noah Kumar of Mars was second in the Boys 10 division with a nine-hole score of 44.

• Kennedy Johnson of Cranberry Township was second in the Girls 12-14 division with an 88.

• Adam Bushee of Cranberry Township was third in the Boys 13-14 division with a 91.

PITTSBURGH — The Penguins on Sunday signed free-agent forward Tanner Glass to a two-year contract on the first day of NHL free agency.Pittsburgh, with money to spend this offseason and eyes on bigger prizes later on, will pay Glass, 28, $1.1 million per season. The veteran had 246 hits and 51 blocked shots for Winnipeg last season, and will fill the hole created when Arron Asham signed with the Rangers earlier in the day.The Penguins also signed forward Warren Peters, 29, and defenseman Dylan Reese, 27. Both were one-year, two-way contracts, worth $600,000 at the NHL level.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins and defenseman Matt Niskanen have agreed to two-year, $4.3 million deal that will keep him with the team until 2014.The 25-year-old Niskanen had four goals and 17 assists in 75 games last season with Pittsburgh and had a plus-nine rating. Niskanen joined the Penguins in 2010-11 in the same trade that brought forward James Neal to the team.Niskanen has proven to be a deft penalty killer for the Penguins and is considered a key part of the blue line after the team shipped Zbynek Michalek to Phoenix last week.

Denny Hamlin has signed a contract extension with Joe Gibbs Racing.Hamlin's contract was not due to expire until after the 2013 season. He announced the extension on Twitter prior to Saturday night's race at Kentucky Speedway.

LONDON — The owner of a hawk used to patrol skies and deter pigeons from the Wimbledon tennis tournament says the bird has been returned after thieves stole it from a car.
