JEFFERSON TWP — Knoch junior Celina Sanks has verbally committed to Eastern Kentucky University for women’s volleyball.

According to Knoch athletic director Mike King, Sanks plans on signing an official letter of intent to join the EKU volleyball program Nov. 14.

Pitt suspends 3 players after raid PITTSBURGH — Three Pittsburgh football players have been suspended by coach Paul Chryst after their house was raided following a drug sting.Police say junior tight end Drew Carswell, defensive tackle Khaynin Mosley-Smith and junior defensive back Eric Williams each will be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. The players’ home was raided early Friday morning.Police say an undercover agent purchased several bags of heroin from another man, Darnell Reed-Young, at the players’ residence. Officers then obtained a search warrant and discovered drug packaging materials in several rooms and a scale with white residue in Carswell’s bedroom.All three players will be charged by summons. Chryst says the team “has strict and clear standards regarding these types of behaviors” and their actions do not represent the standards of the program or university.

OKC’s Westbrook to have surgeryOKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook will have surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and be out indefinitely.General manager Sam Presti said Friday that the Thunder had not yet scheduled Westbrook’s surgery and would not have an accurate timeline for his return until after the procedure was done.The three-time All-Star was hurt in Game 2 of the Thunder’s playoff series against Houston on Wednesday night. Rookie Patrick Beverley lunged into him trying for a steal in the second quarter and his hip collided with Westbrook’s knee.“Our team is disappointed for Russell. We know what kind of competitor he is, how much he wants to be out there, but it’s a medical decision,” Presti said.
