PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to terms with right-hander Kyle Farnsworth on a minor league deal Friday and assigned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 37-year-old Farnsworth was 2-0 with a 5.76 ERA in 39 relief appearances with Tampa Bay this season before being designated for assignment and released Aug. 9.

Farnsworth has pitched for the Chicago Cubs (1999-2004), Detroit (2005 and 2008), Atlanta (2005 and 2010), the New York Yankees (2006-08), Kansas City (2009-10) and Tampa Bay (2011-13). He is 42-62 with 52 saves, a 4.29 ERA and 936 strikeouts in 849 games.

No-hitter highlights Day 2 at LLWSSOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — Little League rules impose a limit of 85 pitches, a number that can make it tough to throw a no-hitter. Grant Holman of Chula Vista, Calif., didn’t have any problems Friday.Holman struck out 13 and became the first player to toss a no-hitter in the Little League World Series since the rule was put in place in 2007, leading Chula Vista into the second round with a 3-0 victory over Grosse Pointe, Mich.With his seven innings of work, Holman also became the first pitcher since 1979 to throw an extra-inning no-hitter in the LLWS.

Browns’ Mingo still in hospitalCLEVELAND — The speedy linebacker is still in the hospital. Following an impressive win, the Browns were hurting.Browns rookie outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo remained at The Cleveland Clinic on Friday, a day after suffering a bruised lung in the first half of an exhibition win against Detroit.Mingo, the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft, will spend a second night in the hospital, where he was taken before the end of the Browns’ 24-6 victory over the Lions. Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said the team doesn’t know how Mingo sustained the injury.
