See you at the top of the hill

Dr. Nick Neupauer

I’m not much of a movie-watcher. But over the past several months, there is one movie that keeps entering my thoughts.

“Hamburger Hill.”

Specifically, it’s one line in that 1987 war movie that I recall vividly, a staff sergeant schooling his not-so-serious new troops about ways to survive the danger ahead:

“I’m going to save your life, and you’re going to save mine.”

Like those Americans portrayed in the film, we face danger.

Our enemy is here.

Our battle call is simple:

Wear a mask to fend off this invisible adversary.

Wearing a mask can save your life.

Wearing a mask can save mine.

I could not be more proud of how we at Butler County Community College have led and of how we have joined with others in emphasizing this battle call to wear a mask.

It’s a requirement we announced early in this pandemic, reinforced in our phased spring and summer reopening plans, and again as part of our BC3 Health and Safety Plan for Fall 2020.

It’s an imperative we supported in a cooperative advertising campaign led by the Butler County board of commissioners and published in the Butler Eagle. We joined other educational institutions, organizations, businesses and municipalities in Butler County in echoing a battle call that will fend off this invisible adversary.

Wear your mask.

Like those Americans in that movie, that keeps entering my thoughts, we will take our hill.

From Oak Hill on our main campus to every hill in Western Pennsylvania.

“I’m going to save your life, and you’re going to save mine.”

Wear your mask.

See you at the top.

Dr. Nick Neupauer is president of Butler County Community College.
