BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will host free Thursday night programs this summer at Alameda Park.

All discovery programs take place at 7 p.m. in the Carousel Shelter, except for the Playthings Etc. program on July 9 which will be in the Masonic Shelter.

Scheduled programs include:

• Animal Traces, 7 p.m. June 18.

An environmental education specialist from Moraine State Park will present an interactive program that explores the animals that you might see while you visit the park.

• The Magic of Kevin Cramer, 7 p.m. June 25.

Magician Kevin Cramer will perform tricks and illusions.

• All About Bees, 7 p.m. July 2.

Terry Shanor will talk about his 26 years of beekeeping experience.

• Playthings Etc., 7 p.m. July 9.

The Playthings Etc. staff will have lots of new toys to try out.

• Turtle Talk, 7 p.m. July 16.

Turtle expert Greg Levish will discuss turtles of Pennsylvania and the role they play in Native American culture. A taste of turtle soup will be available.

• Birds of Prey, 7 p.m. July 23.

Master falconer Earl Shriver of Baden will conduct an hour-long presentation on birds of prey. He will use live birds throughout his presentation including a hawk, an eagle and a falcon.

• Let There Be Slime, 7 p.m. July 30.

This interactive program will celebrate the wonders of amphibians and reptiles in our area ecosystem. Join naturalist April Claus for a program on frogs, toads, salamanders, turtles and snakes.

• ATA Martial Arts Thursday, 7 p.m. Aug. 6.

A demonstration of Taekwondo and self-defense for all ages is planned.

• Whitetail Deer, 7 p.m. Aug. 13.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission presents a program on one of Pennsylvania's best-known wildlife species.
