MUDDY CREEK TWP — The programs for June at Moraine State Park were recently announced. They are:

• "Historic Oil Well Operation," 10 a.m. June 6.

The well and pumping engine that have been restored to working order will operate from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Park staff and volunteers will be there to operate the engine and answer questions. The central powerhouse site is beyond the Forestry & Regional office building on Park Road (Old 422) off Route 528.

• "Technology Treasure Hunters," 11 a.m. June 7.

Join park staff at the Pleasant Valley picnic area on the South Shore to learn how to use a GPS system to explore the park.

• "Work off the Day Kayak Paddle," 6 p.m. June 8.

Meet the park naturalist at the Bear Run boat launch on the South Shore for a fast-paced, guided kayak trip.

To reserve a kayak or to register, call the park office at 724-368-8811. Participants who use park kayaks must be at least 12 years old. An adult must accompany those participants younger than 18.

• "National Get Outdoors Day," 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 13.

The mission of Get Outdoors Day is to provide opportunities for children and their families to enjoy the outdoors. Moraine will host a variety of activities. Call the park office at 724-368-8811 for information.

• "Explore Off Shore," 10 a.m. June 13.

This kayaking experience is meant for those who want to get a workout. Meet the park naturalist at the Pleasant Valley launch on the South Shore. Call the park office at 724-368-8811.

• "Eager Beavers," 2 p.m. June 13.

Meet the wildlife conservation officer at the former Marina Restaurant building just before the Davis Hollow Marina on the North Shore.

• "Hike the Park," 9 a.m. June 14.

Join the park naturalist at the Glacier Ridge Trailhead just past the bike rental station on the North Shore for an 8-mile hike along a section of the North Country Trail.

• "Discover Lake Arthur," 10 a.m. June 20.

The lake has about 42 miles of shoreline to explore. Meet the park naturalist at the Davis Hollow public boat launch on the North Shore to paddle the lakeshore and see Moraine from a different view.

• "Bluebirds ¿ The Fledgling Experience," 2: p.m. June 20.

Meet the park naturalist and Harry Schmeider, the ambassador for the bluebirds, to discuss the bluebird's history, biology, courtship, nest site selection, egg laying, and brooding.

Meet at pavilion 7 at the McDanel's Launch on the North Shore.

• "Family Fishing Program," 1 p.m. June 21.

This program will be held at the Bear Run Boat Launch on the South Shore. Families must be registered and should arrive promptly at 1 p.m. Call 724-368-8811. Participants are not required to have their fishing license while participating in the program.

• "DiscoverE Day Camps," 10:30 a.m. Fridays, June 26, and July 10 and 17.

Children ages 6 to 12 can participate in guided environmental learning activities leading to the badge and certificate of the State Parks DiscoverE program.

• "K-9 SOS," 1 p.m. June 27.

The K-9 S.O.S. search and rescue team, which is made up of volunteers, assists law enforcement and emergency rescue crews with a wide variety of rescue operations. Meet the team and their canine companions at the McDanel's Launch pavilion 7 on the North Shore.

• "Learn to Kayak," 1 p.m. June 28.

Park staff and members of Western Pennsylvania Paddle Sport Association will be available to teach some basic kayaking skills. Participants must be at least 12 years old. An adult must accompany participants younger than 18. Meet at McDanel's launch on the North Shore.
