Juliane Bobby of Butler choreographed a dance, in which she will also perform, for the Décollage Summer Dance Project that will be staged tonight at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in Pittsburgh. The project was facilitated by the modern dance group dArt Movement, of which Bobby is a member.
Dance experience brought to life

PITTSBURGH — Choreographers and dancers in the spirit of the artistic process have created the Décollage Summer Dance Project.

The resulting collage of dance experiences, from hip-hop to modern, from capoeira to Congolese, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. today at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, 5941 Penn Ave. in Pittsburgh. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a reception.

Facilitated by the modern dance group, dArt Movement, over a 10-week period, DSDP choreographers and dancers built 10 unique pieces of original choreography, while breaking down cultural and artistic borders through the processes of creation, education and collaboration.

One of those choreographers is Juliane Bobby of Butler. She created the choreographers-only piece "Not So Broken." She will perform in her own piece as well as in the works created by two other choreographers.

Bobby holds a bachelor of arts degree in dance from Slippery Rock University.

In her career, she has choreographed and performed with Slippery Rock Dance Theatre; performed at the American College Dance Festival, Eastern Central Conference in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 2008; and danced in pieces created by guest and faculty choreographers Helanius Wilkins, Tom Truss, Teena Custer and Ursula Payne for the SRU dance department.

Other choreographers for the Décollage Summer Dance Project show are: Rachel D'Amico of Ross Township; Erin Shaw of Lawrenceville, Laura Stokes of Bloomfield; Lauren Plesko of Lower Burrell; Amanda Newton of Sewickley, and Mark Palatucci, Stacy McAuliffe and Minna Ranjeva, all of Shadyside.

Admission to tonight's performance is $10 at the door, cash only.
