Butler district dealing with last-minute bus problems

The Butler Area School District is working to resolve issues establishing transportation routes for the 2019-20 school year scheduled to start Thursday.

Brian White, superintendent, said the district plans to activate the Tyler parent access to transportation information at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

White acknowledged in a letter to parents on Monday that information on bus stops was delayed due to software issues.

On Tuesday, another letter from White said issuing routes and bus stops was not the only problem. White said many students have been assigned “to routes and bus stops that just don't make sense.”

He said the transportation software, for example, assigned students in larger neighborhoods to a single bus stop instead of the multiple stops preferred by the district.

“In other cases, the a.m. and p.m. bus stop for the student is different when no such request was made,” White said in Tuesday's letter.

He said a team worked on Monday night to make the necessary changes, but the software failed to save those changes.

White said the software company said it has resolved the issue, and elementary and middle school routes and bus stops will be the district's first priority.

“Our goal is still to have updated transportation cards at the elementary Back to School Nights and Kick Start Kindergarten,” White said in the letter.

He encouraged others to email the transportation department with requests or questions.

White said another letter would be released later Tuesday with further updates.

“I truly apologize for the frustration this has caused,” White said. “Again, once we have resolved all of our transportation issues, we will focus on taking steps to make appropriate changes for the future.”
