Butler County's great daily newspaper

Cheer:

A proposed master plan for Butler parks and recreation has a number of positive elements that merit support.

However, one especially notable aspect of the proposed plan is an adopt-a-park program so city residents and businesses would be able to help keep the parks in shape.

Obviously, that would represent an abrupt change from the current mind-set by many that muncipal governments or allied agencies should bear such responsibilities by themselves. But with money consistently in short supply, more and more communities are opting for the kind of approach that has been suggested for here.

Hopefully, the people, businesses and organizations of Butler will find a way to commit themselves to the kind of worthy effort being suggested.

As for city leaders, they should not relax in terms of trying to make acquisition of such recreation help a reality. That effort can begin now, even before formal council action on the master plan.
