Butler County's great daily newspaper

As taxpayer, be concerned

Now that the county tax cards are out, I would like to address the taxpayers on the attitude of our elected officials.

If anyone had the opportunity to hear Butler County Commissioner Dale Pinkerton interviewed on a Pittsburgh radio station about two months ago, his position is as follows:

Butler County's tax rate is less than any of the surrounding counties', so life is good. Instead of talking about where costs can be cut, he proceeded to blame our problems on the cost overruns of the new prison.

Make no mistake; the prison will be the tax-increase whipping boy for years to come, deserved or not.

Secondly, those who are paying for bloated government should pay attention. Butler County will not be revitalized by the Pullman Park project.

We now know that it will cost too much to play ball there, as a Feb. 29 Butler Eagle article made clear.

Perhaps Gov. Ed Rendell can bring us another oversized cardboard check to subsidize the ballpark — you know, with more taxpayer dollars.
