Sixteen-year-old pianist Michael King-Hon Tsang is the winner of the 31st annual Young Artist Competition of the Symphony Association.

Michael studies piano with Marina Lupinacci.

Since age 6, he has participated in piano competitions. He won first place and second place in the Bartok-Kabelevsky-Prokofiev International Young Artists Competition in 1999 and 2001. He received second place in the concerto division of the International Young Artists Competition in Washington, D.C., in 2002 and again in 2004.

In the Duquesne Young Artists Competitions in Pittsburgh, Michael captured first place in all age categories — ages 9, 12, 15 and 18. In 2004, he was the winner in the Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artists Competition.

In 2006, he received second place in the Junior Division of the International Ithaca Piano Competition in New York. In the 2007 Music Teachers National Association Competition, he took first place in the Junior Division and represented Pennsylvania in the regional competition.

In 2009, Michael won first place in the Senior Division and represented Pennsylvania in the East Division competition in New York in January.

In August 2008, Michael received second place at the International Piano Competition organized by the Long Island Conservatory in New York. In January 2009, he was the winner of the Pittsburgh Philharmonic Symphony Concerto Competition. He was first in the concerto competition at Ithaca College in New York last September.

In 2005, Michael had the honor of being the sole performer at the opening session of the Annual Conference of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Art. Currently, he is the pianist with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony.

Michael also plays violin for his school's Honor Chamber Orchestra and participates in PMEA events.

He is the son of Gloria and Warren Tsang of the North Hills of Pittsburgh.
