Noteworthy Butler symphony closes 61st season April 24
The Butler County Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Elisabeth Heath Charles, will finish out its 61st season with a concert at 7:30 p.m. April 24 in the auditorium of Butler Intermediate High School, 551 Fairground Hill Road.
The concert entitled "Hear Us Now" follows this season's theme of "The Dream of America" by presenting composers who are beneficiaries of our ancestors' dream of America.
"Symphony No. 1" by Pennsylvania-born composer Samuel Barber will open the program.
Four Butler County native composers have each contributed one movement to create a new work appropriately called "Butler County Suite." Peter Morabito, Jim Pugh, Jim Sanzotti and Chuck Widdersheim combine their talents for this performance.
Featured soloist for this program is pianist Mihae Lee. She will play Edvard Grieg's "Piano Concerto in A Minor."
Lee has been entertaining audiences throughout North America, Europe, and Asia in solo recitals and chamber music concerts.
An active chamber musician, Lee is an artist member of the Boston Chamber Music Society, appearing regularly both in Boston and on tour in this country and abroad, and is a member of the Triton Horn Trio with violinist Ani Kavafian and French hornist William Purvis.
She is often heard on National Public Radio's "Performance Today" and on stations around the country.
Most recently, she was invited by the Prime Minister and the First Lady of Jamaica to perform in their country.Born in Seoul, South Korea, Lee made her professional debut at age 14 with the Korean National Orchestra. In the same year, she came to the United States on a scholarship from The Juilliard School Pre-College.The Symphony Association is collaborating with the Community Health Clinic of Butler County at this concert. Clinic representatives will provide lobby displays and answer questions.Seats are reserved and tickets cost $15 for adults and $5 for students.
