SLIPPERY ROCK — The Old Stone House will host a Civil War weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 24 and 25.

The free event is hosted in conjunction with the 10th PA Reserves "Mercer Rifles" re-enactment group.

Activities will include a living history encampment, soldier competitions and battle re-enactments.

Living history interpreters will offer demonstrations of Civil War camp life including cooking, blacksmithing, children's games and music.

The Old Stone House will be open for guided tours, and refreshments will be available.

The Old Stone House is at the intersection of Routes 8, 528 and 173.

BUTLER TWP — Alexis Thompson, as her senior project, will host a variety show to benefit the Save the Arts program at Karns City High School.The event featuring music, dance and monologues will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.Admission is $7. NEW CASTLE — The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts will host a concert of original music by Steve Cohagan at 6:30 p.m. April 24 at the institute at 124 E.
