In Concert
PITTSBURGH — Recognized as one of the leading Verdi mezzo-sopranos in the world, Marianne Cornetti, a native of Butler County, will present a concert at 8 p.m. May 21 in the sanctuary at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2040 Washington Road.
She will be accompanied by Mark Trawka, director of musical studies for the Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist Training Program and chorus master.
A native of Cabot, Cornetti is a graduate of Duquesne University and a 2008 recipient of the school's "Women of Distinction" award for having achieved success in her field and demonstrated significant community accomplishments.
Cornetti has sung numerous major roles at the Metropolitan Opera as well as important opera houses throughout Europe, including those in Vienna, LaScala, Arena di Verona and Covent Garden. She is currently singing the role of Amneris in Covent Garden's new production of "Aida."
Future engagements include LaScala, where she will perform the role of Santuzza in "Cavalleri Rusticana." She is also scheduled for two additional appearances at the Metropolitan Opera this fall and in early 2011.
