Reception will honor art contest finalists

Artwork submitted in the Sunnyview Project competition includes "Swirling Vortex — Beginnings" by Wanda Spangler-Warren of Sarver. The 33 finalists will be announced Friday.

The Associated Artists of Butler County will announce the selection of 33 finalists in the art competition designed to fill the walls of Sunnyview's Memory Care Unit with visually stimulating artwork.

A "Meet the Artists & Sunnyview Project Celebration" reception will be held Friday at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St.

The black tie optional, catered event will feature food, music and art, with a cash wine bar and musical performances by classical guitarist Troy Downing and the Trinity Sextet Jazz Band.

Downing will play classical guitar original songs from 7 to 8:30 p.m., followed by a brief program from 8:30 to 9 p.m. and then the Trinity Sextet jazz band will perform from 9 to 11 p.m.

The finalists of the Sunnyview art competition will be announced that night, and attendees will also get to preview the "Butler County Art & Artists" exhibit.

The Sunnyview Memory Care Unit Visual Art Stimulation Project is a collaborative effort of AABC artists and the Sunnyview Memory Care Unit staff to provide artwork that will help improve the visual environment for residents with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.Admission to the Friday reception is $35. Reservations are available by calling 724-283-6922. Tickets will also be available at the door.Individuals or businesses wishing to support this effort at Sunnyview can download a pledge form from the website, www.aabcartcenter.com.Based on donations received to date, 15 pieces of art will be included in the permanent display, but additional donations are being sought to fund another 15 of the finalists' paintings.AABC artists Mary Kay Richardson and Lisa Sten have already completed a large, donated wall mural just inside the entrance to the unit's activity center.

"Middle Lancaster Church" by William Perry of Zelienople is one of the submissions under consideration for the Sunnyview Project being sponsored by the Associated Artists of Butler County.
