PITTSBURGH — Five 20-foot Colorado blue spruces have been decorated with the theme “Inspired by the Muses” in the Hall of Architecture at the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, 4400 Forbes Ave.

The five individual themes are “Heavenly Muse,” “Gods, Heroes & Monsters, “Inspired by the MUSEum,” “Andy’s Muses” and “Music, Poetry of the Air.”

This exhibit along with the Italian Nativity called Neapolitan Presepio continue through Jan. 6.

Winter in the Discovery Room in the Natural History Museum continues through Jan. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.

The Discovery room features a chance to learn about holiday greenery by seeing and smelling live spruce, pine, and other festive plants; touching a caribou’s winter white fur, investigating animals on the Discovery Room tree and listening to the calls of wild birds.

These activities are included in the price of admission.

Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens age 65 and older, $11 for students with ID and children ages 3 to 18, and free for children younger than 3 and members. Admission includes same-day access to both the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Carnegie Museum of Art.

The museums will be closed Saturday for Christmas and Jan. 1. Other holiday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays with extended hours until 8 p.m. Thursdays; closed most Mondays.
