HARMONY — Historic Harmony has announced its events for 2011.
The Harmony Museum, 218 Mercer St., features guided tours of three buildings from 1 to 4 p.m. daily except Mondays and holidays; reservations are suggested for weekends and required for groups. Walking tours and access to additional sites are available by appointment.
• Harmony Museum's annual Harmoniefest fundraiser dinner and historical program, 6 p.m. Feb. 12 in the museum's Stewart Hall.
With 2011 marking the beginning of Civil War sesquicentennial observances, the museum will present a program of mid-1800s music, including that of Stephen Foster who lived in Harmony briefly as a child. Reservations are required.
• German dinners, April 16, Aug. 20 and Oct. 8 in Stewart Hall. Diners may take their own beverages. Reservations are required for either of two seatings, 4:30 or 6:30 p.m.
• Annual “Quilt in a Day” program, 10 a.m. to noon May 31 in Stewart Hall.
Presented by Patricia Knoechel, the program will be based on the newest publications and patterns by Knoechel and her sister, Quilt in a Day founder and syndicated television quilter Eleanor Burns.
Reservations are recommended.
• Annual herb and garden fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 at the museum's historic 1805 barn annex, 303 Mercer Road.
Trade potted plants, buy heritage vegetables, herbs, roses and other ornamentals along with perennials and garden art. Lunch will be available.
• Annual antique gun show, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 13 in Stewart Hall.
Featured will be flintlock, percussion and cartridge firearms and accouterments made before 1898, many for sale, with special emphasis on those made in the region such as the longrifles of Harmony's Charles Flowers.
• Annual WeihnachtsMarkt (German style Christmas Market), Nov. 12 and 13 in Stewart Hall, on adjacent grounds, in the Harmony diamond and around town.Dozens of juried regional artisans and other vendors present a taste of traditional German Christmas markets by offering artwork, handcrafted goods, toys and other wares as well as German imports. Entertainment and food offered.• Annual commemoration of young Virginia Maj. George Washington's historic winter 1753-54 mission to demand French forces withdraw from Western Pennsylvania, precipitating the French and Indian War; Nov. 26.
