VISITING VIPS — Television star Lorne Green, back to camera, introduces Sen. Hubert Humphrey, sitting second from right in front row, to a crowd of about 2,000 people in front of the Butler County Courthouse on April 24, 1972, during Humphrey's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. He was defeated by Sen. George McGovern, who lost the 1972 presidential election in a landslide to incumbent Richard Nixon. Thirty-six years later, Butler County once again drew supporters stumping for a Democratic presidential candidate as former President Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea, visited the county on behalf of Sen. Hillary Clinton.
