Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528 near the intersection of routes 8 and 173, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011 to confirm programs.
Moraine State Park will be the site of Moraine Winterfest from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 22 at McDanel’s Launch on North Shore. Admission is free and so are the activities, which include a Snow Shoe Workshop, Family Winter Nature Hike, Ice Skating (ice permitting/take own skates), children’s crafts and snow activities, Dog Sled Team, cross country skiing with participants own skies and music by Tom Panei. A Chili Cook Off with a fee of $1 to taste or $3 per bowl is planned. Proceeds will benefit the Moraine Preservation Fund. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded at the end of the day.
