This building on Main Street in Foxburg houses the new Red Brick Gallery.
Art cooperative opens on Main Street in Foxburg

FOXBURG — The Red Brick Gallery, a new cooperative for artists, has opened in a 100-year-old building on Main Street.

A few years ago, there was a business in the same space also called The Red Brick. It sold pieces of art that were accepted without critique.

With the re-opening, all work is juried. The work of local painters, photographers and artisans is for sale.

Art works are displayed in the shop space on the first floor and plans are to use the second floor as a gallery space for various exhibitions.

The Red Brick Gallery was created and is supported by Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts. A panel from the ARCA will judge the work to be consigned.

The Red Brick will hold a new member screening on Oct. 15. Individuals may apply for membership in the co-op by submitting three original pieces of art — two or three-dimensional — to be reviewed by the jury panel. Art must be gallery-ready (framed and wired) and completed within the last two years.

More information is available on the website www.alleghenyriver stone.org.

Displaying artists are expected to commit volunteer time in the gallery shop on a regular basis.

The Red Brick is open 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays, noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays.

The Foxburg Food, Art and Wine Festival is planned for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For ticket information, call 412-867-1816.
