WORTH TWP — The Western Pennsylvania Rhythm Society will host a free, all-ages drum circle at 3 p.m. Sunday near the bicycle rental building at Moraine State Park.

A few drums will be available, but participants are encouraged to take a drum or rhythm instrument if they have one.

Christopher Erskine of Butler will give a presentation titled "Reaching Solid Ground? 5 Steps to Defeating Depression" at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Holly Picnic Shelter at Alameda Park.Erskine is a veteran who suffered with and defeated depression.

SLIPPERY ROCK — John Makay, professor emeritus of communication studies at Bowling Green State University, will lecture at Slippery Rock University's fifth annual Ted Walwik Freedom of Speech Lecture at 8 p.m. Thursday.The free lecture will be in SRU's Advanced Technology and Science Hall.Butler library to join in shared readingJumpstart Read for the Record, a national literacy campaign, is asking adults and children to read "Corduroy" on Thursday to break 2007's record of 258,000 people who participated in shared reading.Readers may join Jumpstart at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Butler Public Library, N. JEFFERSON TWP— Summit Presbyterian Church will hold its annual 5K walk and race and Octoberfest Oct. 4 at the Christian Community Outreach Building, 650 Saxonburg Road.Registration for the 5K will be at 7:30 a.m. and the race will begin at 8 a.m.The Octoberfest will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include crafts, vendors, a bake sale, food, a Chinese auction and games for children. Children will also make their own ice cream and scarecrows. GROVE CITY — The Grove City High School class of 1973 is planning its 35th reunion for homecoming weekend, Friday and Saturday. EAST BRADY — The Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will host a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Sugarcreek Township Fire Hall, 110 Rodgers Road.Donors may drop off rummage items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. No large appliances or furniture will be accepted.
