Butler County's great daily newspaper

At the polls

With Election Day Tuesday, a heavy turnout is forecast. That was also the case in Butler County in November 1968, when the presidential and legislative races brought out voters. This picture was taken in the first precinct of Butler's first ward, at St. Michael's Hall on Center Avenue. There, 62 voters had cast their ballots by 10 a.m. The trend was reflected throughout the county, and it was felt that the turnout of registered voters had a chance to top the 82 percent figure of the 1964 contest. In 1968, the Richard Nixon, Spiro Agnew GOP ticket defeated Democrats Hubert Humphrey and Edmund Muskie.
