Information on Sharrar is lacking
The Bishop-Sharrar American Legion Post 219 was chartered in August 1919 in honor of Frank Bishop and Thomas Sharrar, who both served in World War I.
Although little information exists about Frank Bishop, some information about Cpl. Thomas Sharrar was provided to the post by his great nephew, Fred Sharrar of Evans City.
According to family documents, Sharrar died of pneumonia after the war ended, but his already weak lungs stemmed from exposure to mustard gas while serving in France. He died in Liverpool, England, where he sought schooling while waiting to return home.
He served in the U.S. Army Co. C, 27th Engineers.According to post commander Dean McMillen, the post tried to find information about Bishop during a recent Octoberfest by posting a query on the wall under his photograph. No one responded."We wish someone who has knowledge of him would come forward and share it with us," McMillen said.
