Beginning of Lent
The Rev. James K. Mazurek, assistant pastor, places ashes on the foreheads of parishioners on Ash Wednesday on Feb. 27, 1974, at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church on Center Avenue. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season, is being celebrated today at Roman Catholic churches with the blessing and distribution of ashes.
