Supporting the Outdoors
Sportsmen turned out in March 1964 to show their support for National Wildlife Week. They visited the Montgomery Ward's store on Main Street to point out the impact outdoor recreation has on the economy. From left are William Baer, president of the Butler County Sportsmen's Conservation Council; Kenneth E. Weitzel, county wildlife week chairman, and Leonard A. Green, vice president of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs. The theme 45 years ago was "America Needs Outdoor Recreation, Plan Now to Provide for the Future." National Wildlife Week is still observed today, this year running from March 16 to 20.
