Sharing their snapshots
Dan Jenny is a part-time missionary with Missions of the World and the director of Tumpline Ministries, an outreach of Gospel Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Middlesex Township. This year he and his wife, Jan, are spending several months helping missionaries run a home for girls in Osorno, Chile.
After taking early retirement from Lucent Technologies, where he worked as a sales engineer, he began Tumpline Ministries with his brother, Fred, and friend, Dave Kenya of Ligonier.
Coming from a family of outdoorsman, Dan and Fred have led wilderness adventure trips since the late 1970s.
Dan's next big endeavor is to plan a trip to Africa, one place he's never been.
Dan and Jan have two children, Dan Jr. of Western Pennsylvania and Laura of Kentucky. Both went on the January trip.
Dan's older brother Fred goes along on as many Tumpline trips as he can, usually several each year. As the photographer for the trips he goes on, Fred calls the work "a labor of love."
"I love it (photography). I love the process. I love fooling with the gear," he said. Often he takes off during free time to set up his tripod and capture rare wilderness images.
An ambitious photographer, Fred took 20 gigabytes of camera cards with him but only shot 8 gigabytes. The photographs in this story were taken by Fred.
Fred, 60, teaches computer science and education at Grove City College. He and his wife, Gerri, live in Grove City and have three grown children: Nate of Rochester, N.Y.; Seth of Turkey and Joy of Mount Washington. They also have three grandchildren.
