The Red Hat Society will host a tea with the Amish bus trip to Ohio May 23. Participants will leave the Cranberry Mall at 7:30 a.m. and return at 9 p.m.

Stops will include an Amish bakery, cheese shop, craft shop, greenhouse, gift shop and dinner in an Amish home.

Reservations must be made by Saturday.

JEFFERSON TWP - Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host Civil War music expert, Thomas Jolin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Concordia Social Hall, Haven I, 112 Marwood Road.Jolin will perform a selection of songs from the era and discuss their origins, as well as the origins of the period instruments. The Pennsylvania Humanities Council will sponsor the event.The community can register by calling Cathy Questiaux at 724-352-1571, Ext. 8518.Nominations open for teacher of yearNominations for the Pennsylvania 2008-09 teacher of the year are being accepted through April 30.The award will include $1,000 to the winning teacher and a $500 grant to the teacher's school. The state winner will also be eligible for the national award.Nomination forms are available at teachers.com.

BUTLER TWP - The Visiting Nurses Association will hold a flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 2 at the VNA parking lot, 154 Hindman Road.Proceeds will benefit the new VNA inpatient hospice unit slated to open this winter.Donations of appropriate items are being accepted through May 1. BRADY TWP - People of the Forest, All Nations Gathering and Muddy Creek Singers will present a Native American pow wow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 2 and 3 at the Old Stone House.Activities will include dancing, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, drumming and falconry. BUTLER TWP - The Visiting Nurses Association will sponsor a spring choral concert by David English and a Circle of Friends to benefit its inpatient hospice building fund.
