Butler native Alayna releases CD
Butler native Alayna Carroll now lives in Nashville, Tenn., and recently released her first CD, “Top of a Dream.”
The singer/songwriter, who goes by the single name Alayna, penned five of the six tracks on the CD, some with co-writers.
Even more recently, she’s reached a single song publishing deal for her tune “Break It Down,” which she wrote after the CD was released.
The 24-year-old graduated from Butler High School in 2007 and from Westminster College in New Wilmington in December 2010 with a degree in business and music concentrated in classical piano.
She was raised by her grandparents, Norman and Virginia Carroll, and her grandfather still lives in Butler. Her grandmother is deceased.
Alayna moved to Nashville in July 2011.
“I haven’t done a lot with piano; so much in Nashville is guitar,” Alayna said. She taught herself to play the guitar.
“I love being in Nashville,” she said. “There are so many talented people here.
“I love being around people who are so talented; you know you learn from them.”
Her music is available on iTunes and CD Baby and physical copies can be obtained through her website, alaynamusic.com.
She describes her musical style as country crossover, the very new country that’s coming out, she said, sort of a “Taylor Swift mixed with Kelly Clarkson.”
“At Butler High School, I did all the choir festival and PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) things,” Alayna said.
“I’ve wanted to do this since I was 6 years old.”
When she was 18 to 20 years old, she performed in town at places like the Lyndora Hotel and W. Ricks.
Now she’s working on putting a band together and booking shows. She has dates scheduled in Nashville and Chattanooga.
“I’m also continuing to write songs,” Alayna said. “I’m always writing songs.”
