Old Stone House will present a six-session Early American Hearth Cooking class beginning Feb. 8. Students will practice a variety of cookery techniques, from stewing and roasting to baking breads and desserts. They will use the Tavern Room at the Old Stone House, at the intersection of Routes 8 and 173, including its open hearth built in 1822. Classes will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday from Feb. 8 to March 15. Tuition is $150, including all materials and supplies, as well as a hearthside cooking recipe book. For the 20th year, a model railroad is on display from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Feb. 1 at Donaldson Motors, 714 River Ave., Emlenton. National Aviary, 700 Arch St., has daily baby penguin meet-and-greets. The “Canary’s Call” exhibit showcases four signature bird species and a number of other birds from around the world.
