Days of Dance
BUTLER TWP — Two weekends of dance are coming up at the Succop Theater on the campus of Butler County Community College.
This Saturday, Slippery Rock University dancers will present the “Making Our Move” winter concert at 2 and 6:30 p.m.
The SRU dancers have found artistic inspiration in Alcatraz, the former federal penitentiary in California known as “The Rock,” and several of its most famous prisoners, including Al Capone and George “Machine Gun Kelly” Barnes.
Dance majors, who worked on their dances during the fall semester, will present solo and group choreography in modern and classically influenced styles.
Tickets for the SRU show are $5.50 for students, senior citizens and children and $10.50 for general admission, available at sru.edu/studentlife/union/Pages/ticketing.aspx.
On Feb. 14, the August Wilson Dance Ensemble will perform “A Valentine Affair” an 8 p.m. show in the Succop Theater as part of BC3’s Performing Artists Mini-Series, in its 12th season.
Led by artistic director Greer Reed-Jones, the company is working with choreographers and a select group of dance artists to become one of the premier contemporary dance companies in the country.
Tickets are $20; senior citizens can get a $2 discount, and students pay $10. Ticket buyers will receive a theater discount coupon for a Butler restaurant.
