'Fire & Water' concert wraps up 70th season for county symphony

Butler County Symphony Orchestra's 70th anniversary season will conclude with the concert “Fire & Water” at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

Selections will include Debussy's “La Mer,” Mahler's “Songs of a Wayfarer” and Stravinsky's “The Firebird Suite.”

Performing with the orchestra will be the symphony's Collegiate Concerto Competition winner, vocalist Elary Mede, along with baritone Timothy LeFebvre.

Mede is a sophomore vocal performance major, studying at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Her stage credits at IUP include the role of Barbarina in “Figaro! Figaro! Figaro!” and Johanna in “Sweeney Todd.”

She is a part the IUP Chorale and Chamber singers and also a member of the professional music fraternity Delta Omicron.

A nationally acclaimed baritone, LeFebvre has wide-ranging experience from the operatic stage to the concert hall.Recent performances include Britten's “War Requiem” with the Wichita Symphony, Haydn's “Mass in Time of War” with Symphoria in Syracuse, N.Y., and Verdi's “La Traviata” with the Erie Chamber Orchestra and Tri-Cities Opera.He frequently performs opera roles with the Sarasota Opera, Syracuse Opera, and Opera Theater of Pittsburgh.LeFebvre graduated with honors from Carnegie Mellon University and Binghamton University and is associate professor of voice at Oberlin Conservatory of Music.Tickets are available by calling 724-283-1402 or via email at butlersymphony@zoominternet.net.
